Industry website AutoNews reports today that Mitsubishi’s Pajero 4WD drive diesel wagon is the Overlander magazine Best Value for Money trophy winner for the third year in a row.

The announcement was made in a feature acknowledging the best 4WDs across the full market spectrum, considering all models now available on the Australian market.

In addition to winning the Best Value for Money category, Mitsubishi’s Pajero DiD got an honourable mention in the Best Medium Wagon Diesel category, and the Mitsubishi Pajero shortwheel base DiD received an honourable mention in the Best Small Wagon category.

“As fuel prices continue to increase, customers in the market for a new vehicle need to count their pennies and save as much money as possible in running costs.

"Mitsubishi is proud to say the Pajero can help them do that with its fuel economy, competitive servicing costs and our class leading warranty,” President and chief Executive officer of MMAL, Robert McEniry, said.

Mitsubishis Diamond Advantage combines a 5 year or 130,000km new vehicle warranty, a 10 year or 160,000km Powertrain Warranty with 5 year roadside assist also included.

The Pajero DiD uses a 3.2 litre turbodiesel engine which produces 118kW of power and 381Nm of torque.

Mitsubishi told GoSee today that the towing capacity on the 5 door Pajero diesel is 2500kg with brakes, without brakes is 750 kg.

Taking a refeshing, sensible, responsible, industry leading position on towing safety Mitsubishi told GoSee that a Weight Distribution Hitch (WBH)is recommended for downloads exceeding 135kg.

When the Pajero DiD was first released Mitsubishi told GoSee that the company position was conservative and committed to safety when towing.

We take the view that in an extreme situation everything might rely on that conservative position and the strength of something like our handbrake design, a Mitsubishi spokesman said at the time.

Starting from $51,090, the Mitsubishi Pajero DiD is the best value for money fourwheel drive according to Mathieu Raudonikis, Editor of Overlander magazine.

“Even the base GLX model comes standard with all the kit that you really need,” he said.

“Aside from fine performance from its engine, the Pajero’s appeal lies in its combination of sharp onroad dynamics and more than handy off road ability,” Mathieu Raudonikis said.

The Mitsubishi Pajero is available from more than 200 dealerships in Australia.

Editor's Note: Here  is a run of related GoSee features. It should be noted that families are the main group in caravan park holidays.

GoSee does not believe that current fuel costs are a stopper. About $110 spent on fuel will take a family of five, their caravan and all their gear to and from a typical caravan park destination up to 300km from their home.
